Choosing a Vaser Hi Def Surgeon in the UK

It is absolutely essential that if you are considering Vaser Hi Def or 4D liposcupture, that you see doctors who have been officially trained in the technique by Dr Alfredo Hoyos, the innovator of Vaser Hi Def & 4D Sculpt.

To date, I think there are only 7 doctors who have been trained in Vaser Hi Def, but only ONE who has been trained in Vaser 4D Sculpt - me!

So how do you choose the right surgeon?

Meet at least 3 different surgeons and trust your gut instinct. Don't be guided by price. See if your surgeon fully understands your goals, explains the procedure and aftercare to you, gives you realistic expectations, shows you examples of his work and also, develops a good rapport with you. Vaser 4D Sculpt is a surgical procedure requiring surgical skill, and a lot of dedicated aftercare to maximise results.

It is also important to identify other qualifications he may have such as any training status which means he also teaches other surgeons. For example, I have been personally selected by Dr Alfredo Hoyos to be the only UK doctor to provide Basic & Advanced Vaser Training for the International Centre for Artistic Body Sculpting. You can read Dr Hoyos' comments on why he chose me here.

How quickly will I see the results after Vaser Hi Def?

Copyright Dr Alfredo Hoyos & Dr Ravi Jain
The answer is instantly! As you can see from this photo taken immediately at the end of my Vaser 4D Sculpt procedure, my six pack abs (actually an eight pack) are visible straight away and they actually signify the end of the procedure.

They will still be present for about 48 hours and then inflammatory swelling will develop and it will take about 2 months to return to the state shown in the photo.

In the photo you can see the white skin ports which protect the skin from where the Vaser probes are inserted. The scars are tiny and invisible.

Dr Hoyos took this photo and showed it to me recently, to reassure me what I will end up looking like. Overnight, I lost 5 kilos in weight and have lost 4 inches off my waistline. I am now 3 weeks post op and I need new trousers! Even with the padding my trousers are still looser than before the operation.

My arms and sides are still tight and require daily stretching. If I sit too long by abs need stretching too. I have just completed an light work out and felt good on it. I will be playing a light game of squash tonight to help burn off more fat and flush out any inflammatory fluid.

This procedure has completely changed my life and I now fully understand what my patients go through.

5 Reasons why it is important to wear compression garments after Vaser Lipo

Vaser Compression Garment
This is probably what people dread the most about any liposuction procedure as they fear the discomfort and constant reminder that they have had surgery. However, if high quality garments are used, it does not need to be such an ordeal as good garments are actually quite supportive and comfortable. Below are 5 reasons why it is such an important step in your care plan:

1. Following liposuction, a potential space has been created in the layers between your skin and your muscles as most of the fat has been removed. This space needs to be constantly compressed in the first few weeks post surgery, in order to prevent collections of fluids such as blood (which could cause a haematoma), inflammatory fluid (which could cause a seroma) or infection.

2. On top of that, good compression garments assists the body's natural lymphatic system, flush away any excess inflammatory fluids from the would sites.

3. The compression ensures that the skin wound edges are closed and so improves the appearance of the scars.

4. The compression helps the skin 'stick' back down to the deeper layers, enhancing the skin retraction and final appearance of your new body.

5. The garments actually make you look slimmer!

What about the compression padding?

4D Vest by Marena
For more extensive liposuction cases such as after treating abdomens or following Vaser Hi Def/4D Sculpt, your surgeon may recommend the addition of a compression foam padding vest to wear UNDER your compression garment for 4 weeks. This is to apply even, consistent pressure around your torso which helps prevent complications such as seroma and also enhances the contour of your new body.

It is a good idea to order at least 2 complete sets of compression hosiery and padding and maybe 3 sets. You may also need a second stage set to use after 3 weeks when most of your swelling has reduced and so your initial garments become too loose.

What are the common complaints with compression garments?

a) It needs 2 people to get them on in the first few days.
b) It can be so tight I can't breathe properly (this is too tight and you should get a bigger size)
c) They have shrunk after washing - only hand wash in cool water and do NOT tumble dry!
d) Its so hot!
e) between weeks 3-6, your skin starts to get its sensation back and this lends itself to experience intense itching! This is very frustrating, but its all a good sign that you are healing well!

So whats a typical timetable for wearing compression garments?

Vaser Lipo - wear the garments for 3 weeks 24/7, then another 3 weeks 12/7
Vaser Hi Def / 4D Sculpt - wear the garments with the foam vest 24/7 for 4 weeks, then just the garments 24/7 for another 4 weeks.

Where can I get compression garments from?
We have used Marena, Macom & Holistic Garments following Vaser. Following his very own 4D Sculpt procedure, Dr Jain used garments from Marena.

How much time off work will I need after Vaser?

Typically after Vaser Liposelection the recovery is much quicker than with traditional liposuction, when like for like areas are treated. Most patients need about the first 2 days following their surgery off work as these are the days when there is the most drainage. After the 2nd day, the wounds tend to close up and the dressings can be discarded, leaving just the compression garments only needing to be worn.

Following a patient survey at Riverbanks Clinic, we identified that out of all the patients that had their Vaser on a Thursday, nearly 100% of them returned to work on the following Monday. By the Monday, only a few were still taking paracetamol as their painkiller, while the majority didn't need painkillers.

1. Whats the difference between Vaser Lipo & Vaser Hi Def?

Vaser Liposelection

Vaser Lipo uses an ultrasonic VASER probe to emulsify the mid and deep layers of fat around the body. Excellent debulking and enhancement of curves is possible in the hands of a skilled VASER surgeon, and the patient can realistically expect inch reduction with smooth results. Most patients are back at work within 2-4 days depending on how extensive their procedure was. Most get by on over the counter analgesics such as paracetamol or solpodeine.

Vaser Liposelection is the choice of almost 99% of Vaser patients as excellent results can be achieved with minimal fuss and downtime.

Vaser Lipo can be used to treat the following areas:
  • Double chins
  • Bingo wings
  • Man boobs
  • Tummies
  • Love handles
  • Saddle bags
  • Knees
  • Back Fat
  • Bra Fat
  • Calves
Vaser Hi Def - High Definition Liposculpture

This is a highly advanced technique devised by Colombian plastic surgeon Dr Alfredo Hoyos, benefiting from the delicate effect of the Vaser system. Vaser Hi Def (VHD) uses the vaser probes to removethe deep, mid and superficial layers of fat, particularly around the muscle groups in order to reveal an atheletic, sculpted look.

It is important to realise that VASER is the only technique that allows surgeons to perform liposculpture in the superficial layers of fat, with minimal risks of tissue breakdown, seromas and scarring, as when other tools are used. Combined with effective aftercare massages, VHD can offer safe and amazing results. It really can give you a six pack in just a few hours.

The recovery is longer than with standard VASER Lipo, due to the extra swelling and discomfort one gets when treating the superficial layers. However, the results are so good, many people feel it is worth the 1-2 weeks off work (or at least working from home after week 1).

Vaser Hi Def can be performed in both men and women to reveal highly defined musculature in the following areas:Abdomen
  • Breasts
  • Sides of torso
  • Lower back
  • Upper arms
  • Male Chest
  • Thighs
  • Calves
